Meeting with Mayor Jordan

We met with Mayor Jordan in early February about the compassion meetings at the library. He had some very thoughtful responses and we tried to capture them here:

“. . . by listening to what they say, it creates an emotion . . . it takes the active listening element and adds the ingredient of compassion, so that creates the empathy that you have”

“Active listening creates space . . . it means you can go deeper by reflecting on the other person’s feelings”

“Using empathy – that’s a whole other thing – if you listen with compassion, you think how you can help this person . . . go beyond yourself to make that person’s feelings more important than your own”
If you engage in compassionate listening, “everybody will be listening instead of wanting what they want. . . it is a way of serving other people and being of service.”
